About us

The beginning of students' sports movement in Lithuania was in 1922, but for a long time there wasn't an organization uniting students. Lithuanian, Latvian and Finland’s students Olympics in 1929 were an impulse for establishing an organization which took care of the students' sport and could represent it in foreign countries.  The Academic Sports Club was established on March 15th, 1930. On October 29 at the Institute of Physical Education the Academic Youth Sports Union was established and it took care of the students' sports.

In 1940 when Lithuania was made a part of the Soviet' Union the students' sports life was changed a great deal. Lithuanian students were isolated from the international movement. When the FISU began organizing World Universiades in 1959 the Lithuanian sportsmen could participate, in them only as members of the Soviet Union's teams. A lot of gifted sportsmen lost an opportunity to compete with famous world sportsmen. In spite of that among the prize winners there were Lithuanians too.

In 1990 when Lithuania became an independent state students were united by the Lithuanian students sport assoiation.
